Independent Medical Examinations
An independent medical examination (IME) occurs when a doctor who has not previously been involved in a patient's care examines the patient. An IME is requested when there are questions surrounding the reasonable and necessity of treatment, to assess causation, impairment, and/or appropriateness of care.
Usually an IME consists of a complete review of the file provided, an examination, and generation of a written report. If requested, we will coordinate a phone consultation with the consultant before and/or after the IME to discuss findings before the report is generated.
Northwest Medical Experts will facilitate the IME or CR35 exam from request through product delivery. If requested, we can work directly with the examinee or their attorney to ensure the most convenient date/time and location for all parties involved.
The medical consultant always reviews and gives final approval on all reports before they are delivered to the requesting party.
We strive for a 7 business day turnaround time and rush report requests are accepted and accommodated whenever possible.
Medical File Reviews
Medical file reviews are utilized to assist in evaluating cases. Usually the focus of a file review is to assess causation, impairment, and appropriateness of care. Dependent on the case, file reviews can be a valuable cost saving service in lieu of an independent medical examination.
Northwest Medical Experts will facilitate the medical file review with the appropriate consultant based on the requester's preference. If requested, we will coordinate a phone consultation with the consultant before and/or after the IME to discuss findings before the report is generated. Sometimes a verbal report or opinion is given in lieu of a written report.
The medical consultant always reviews and gives final approval on all reports before they are delivered to the requesting party.
